TEAM PRINCIPLES
Attitude of Humility and Grace
This serves as the core principle that will drive all the other principles (our actions and behaviors). It speaks to our heart attitude toward one another and affects our thoughts, words, and actions (cf. Luke 6:45, Eph 4:29). We commit to listen before we speak and we surrender our right to interrupt or raise our voices in anger. We seek to be quick repenters who acknowledge our own sin before confronting the offense of another. We will be over-emphatic in expressing our gratitude for acts of service and will extend to one another the benefit of the doubt, assuming positive intent when circumstances are unclear.
Transparency and Approachability
We seek to create an atmosphere where we are able to share openly our weaknesses and sins without fear of judgment or that the things we share will be used against us. We want to communicate candidly with each other but always guided by love and gentleness. We desire to create a team culture where we take our calling seriously though we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We will graciously receive feedback and critique, even when offered in an uncharitable manner, even as we ourselves commit to providing feedback in a graciously, constructively and lovingly. We will view critique as a means for growth and as an opportunity to chip away at our blind spots.
Peacemaking and Reconciliation
For the sake of God’s name, our team, and ourselves we will commit to following peacemaking principles and processes. Before conflict arises we will strive to build trust and respect relationships with every team member. When conflict arises we will seek reconciliation. After conflict occurs we will strive to keep no record of wrong (Matthew 18: 15-20). Accordingly, we will not tolerate gossip. We refuse to participate in conversations about the sins or shortcomings of another and will speak out against it whenever it is encountered.
Flexibility and Balance
We value the ability to adapt and change our plans and decisions for the sake of the team vision. Being a “team player” shows itself in having a servant’s heart, willingness to sacrifice and help other team members joyfully. Included is also the ability to see things from the other person’s perspective.
Commitment and Collegiality
We seek to foster a sense of commitment to both individual team members and team projects. This commitment is demonstrated, by the grace of God, in faithfulness to the promises, decisions, and projects we make. We seek to create a culture where we follow through with things we say we will do and are willing to be held accountable for our commitments. We understand that we may not be involved in all the ministries of our team, but we show commitment by being supportive of each other’s projects. In addition, we understand that our commitment to timely communication and collaboration is a demonstration of respect to our teammates and a loving way to bear one another’s burdens.
